Most people in the state of Washington have a driver’s license or at least an identification card, bot of which are issued by the Department of Licensing. Often when folks are cited or charged for a driving offense in Washington – whether it be a DUI, Reckless Driving or a speeding ticket – they need to access their driving record for one reason or another. Well, be aware, Washington state’s Department of Licensing plans to temporarily close this week for internal system updates. Thus, accessing records could be impeded for a time. It is hoped that system upgrades will enhance customer service, add security features, and better support mobile devices.

Drivers will not be able to renew their licenses or car tabs online until Feb. 18, 2025. Online services for vehicle and boat licensing will be down through Feb. 17, 2025. DOL’s physical licensing offices and its call center will close from Friday, Feb. 14th until Feb. 17th. Business and professional licensing systems will not be impacted by DOL’s system updating.
