The Everett Police Department is following in line with other police departments around the state … they are in the throws of integrating body cameras into their uniforms. In the weeks to come some Everett Police Officers will be outfitted with body-worn cameras as part of a 6 month pilot program.
The idea is to study the benefits and drawbacks of the body-cams, and evaluate its enhanced technology on policing. Gauging from other departments, it isn’t tough to comprehend that the pilot program will morph into Everett’s standard operating procedure for their officers. Everett has budgeted approximately $400k for the program in 2020; they could also be granted some monetary funding down the road.
Reviewing body camera footage is helpful for both defense counsel and prosecutor’s alike. It often makes things crystal clear where a written report and/or car dash camera video simply isn’t sufficient.
