Last Thursday a former director of sports marketing for Microsoft plead guilty to wire-fraud. The plea stemmed from an allegation that he used his employment position to defraud Microsoft of approximately $1 million. This amount included the theft of 62 Super Bowl tickets meant for employees, which the man sold for $200,000 online. Part of his job was to decide which Microsoft employees would receive Super Bowl tickets; he sadly even made one fellow employee pay him $12,400 for two ‘free’ tickets.

The plea deal will result in the dismissal of four other counts on May 10, 2019, which is when sentencing will take place. Wire fraud carries with it a possible 20 year prison term. The theft(s) were investigated by the FBI and included the funneling of funds to the former director’s personal bank account. The director has already returned $1,036,000 to Microsoft.
