A Skyway man – Mr. Dante Piggee – was recently charged with drunken driving, hit-and-run, reckless endangerment and driving with a suspended license in connection with an automobile accident that occurred last Wednesday in South Seattle. Mr. Piggee allegedly crashed his car while driving with his two small children; Mr. Piggee’s BMW sedan flipped after hitting a parked car in the 1800 block of 12th Avenue. Mr. Piggee was arrested a block away at Cal Anderson Park. Police officers said Mr. Piggee seemed confused and couldn’t tell them the names of his children or their dates of birth. They also claimed that they smelled liquor on his breath and noted he had watery, bloodshot eyes and dried blood on his nose. Mr. Piggee’s children were taken to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation after the crash and then released to Mr. Piggee’s wife.
Regardless of the Seattle City Attorneys Office’s vehement arguing, Mr. Piggee was released Sunday from the King County Jail on bail set at $10,000. The judge also did not follow the Seattle City Attorneys Office’s request that Mr. Piggee be barred from contact with his children.
Records show that Mr. Piggee has been criminally charged approximately 50 times since he was 10 years old; his criminal record includes a conviction for second-degree murder of a woman outside Garfield High School in the late 1980’s when he was 18. Mr. Piggee was released from prison in March 2005. Other convictions include second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and violation of a protection order, the bulk of which have been handled in Municipal/ District courts.
