There is a new sheriff in town, literally. As of last week, the King County Sheriff’s Office now provides law enforcement for the city of North Bend. Last year, the North Bend city council made the decision to end the city’s contract with Snoqualmie police, which had provided policing since 2012. Startup costs will be higher in the short term, but the city expects long-term savings by contracting with the King County Sheriff’s Office.
North Bend becomes the 14th city in King County to contract with the sheriff’s office for policing. Like the City of Shoreline, North Ben patrol cars and uniforms will be branded as “North Bend police,” but sheriff’s deputies will staff the department.
The next task is hiring 10 full-time officers and a detective to serve North Bend. But for now, the town will be staffed with deputies working overtime shifts from other areas in the county. Be careful out there. North Bend law enforcement is watching.
